The GSR180 features a double-cutaway nato body bolted to a maple neck with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with white dot position markers. Components include a pair of Ibanez passive jazz pickups, a B10 bridge with 19mm string spacing, a plastic nut and Ibanez tuning machines.
For 2009 the body material was changed to agathis. For the Brown Sunburst finish the body material was changed to basswood in 2013 and mahogany for 2014. For 2015 the body material was changed to mahogany. For 2018 the rosewood fingerboard was replaced with treated New Zealand pine and the body material was changed to poplar. For 2019 the fretboard material was changed to jatoba. For 2020 the fretboard material was again changed, this time to purpleheart. For 2022 the body material was changed to okoume.
